… through 800 years of Hanseatic history. The Hanse was a powerful economic alliance that extended across northern Europe and the Baltic, in which first merchants and later towns joined together to promote long-distance and maritime trade. You will find out about the merchants’ commercial daring, riches, pomp, sickness and death. Discover the complexity of the economic system, see how everyday life was influenced by religion and how the image of the Hanse has evolved to the present day.

A new museum building, a medieval Castle Friary and an integrated archaeological excavation site form the extraordinary and outstanding museum complex. Modern museum technology, original exhibits, media stations, reconstructed scenes as well as graphics and statistics will explain the historical connections. Welcome to a place where history revives!
